Chukars and KUPI / Sand-Hill Media Announce a 5 year Extension
Idaho Falls - On Thursday, KUPI / Sand Hill Media announced they will remain the broadcast station of all Idaho Falls Chukars baseball games for another 5 years. With the renewal of this contract, the familiar voices of Jim Garshow and John Balginy will return to the broadcast booth of McDermott Field for the 2006 season. "Our relationship with the Idaho Falls Chukars has been outstanding in the past," stated Garshow. "We are very pleased that we can continue this relationship with the Chukars for the next 5 years."
For John, over 20 years of covering professional baseball here in Eastern Idaho will continue. Other than Chukars games, John is the voice for the Idaho Falls Tigers football and basketball teams. You can hear John every morning as one of the "Breakfast Boys" on KUPI 99.1 FM.
Doing his first broadcast for the Idaho Falls Angels in 1970, Jim Garshow is believed to be the longest active radio broadcaster in all of Minor League Baseball. "Broadcasting baseball has always been part of my summer life," states Garshow. "Its especially enjoyable being alongside John (Balginy). We've worked together for over 20 years now. Some teams were good, others not so good, but we have a good time every night. Hopefully baseball fans like what we do."
The Chukars will open their 2006 campaign in Casper, Wyoming on June 20th at 7:05PM, as they take on the Casper Rockies in a 4 game set. The Chukars will return to Idaho Falls for their home opener on June 24th, as they play host to the Ogden Raptors. Game time is set for 7:15 PM. All games will be broadcasted on KUPI 980 AM.
