Bisons, Coca-Cola Present Mercy Flight with $7,000
Money Raised from Return of Specially-Marked Coca-Cola Cans
The Buffalo Bisons joined the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Buffalo to present Mercy Flight of Western New York with a check for $7,000 on Thursday, February 7. Jon Dandes, President of Rich Baseball Operations, and Peter Benzino, Vice President and General Manager of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Buffalo, made the presentation to Greg Gill, Director of Development for Mercy Flight, at Dunn Tire Park on Thursday.
The funds were raised during a "Teaming Up For Buffalo" program during the 2005 baseball season. Coca-Cola produced 1.5 million specially-marked Bisons cans which could be redeemed for a free ticket to select home games during the 2005 season. The nickel deposit from all limited-edition cans returned to the Bisons Box Office during the promotion was then donated to Mercy Flight of Western New York.
"You can not stress enough the importance of having an agency like Mercy Flight in our community," said Jon Dandes, President of Rich Baseball Operations. "The Bisons are proud to be able to help such a worthy agency in their great service to the people of Western New York."
Mercy Flight has responded to over 13,000 requests since its inception in 1981. In 2005, Mercy Flight celebrated their 25th Anniversary of providing emergency service in Western New York. They currently have three bases of operation, Buffalo Airport, Genesee County Airport and Olean Hospital, where they operate four "BO 105", twin-engine helicopters.
