Bisons Activate Gonzalez and Camacaro

Haad, Velandia Head to Cleveland
June 12, 2008
The Cleveland Indians announced that they have purchased the contracts of C Yamid Haad and INF Jorge Velandia from the Bisons. The two players will help fill the void with the Tribe as C Victor Martinez and INF Josh Barfield were placed on the 15-day disabled list.

For the Bisons, the team has activated INF Andy Gonzalez off the disabled list. C Armando Camacaro has been promoted from Double-A Akron to the Herd.

Gonzalez has been on the disabled list since June 1 with a left hamstring strain. In 46 games with the Herd this season, Gonzalez has hit .247 (37-150) with 4HR and 20RBI (11 2B, 2SB, 18R). Despite missing the last 11 games, the infielder/outfielder still leads the Bisons with 25 walks and a .363 on-base percentage.

Camacaro, 29, has hit .250 (17-68) with 4HR and 13RBI in 20 games with Double-A Akron this season (3 2B, 1SB, 8R). He has thrown out 47% of would-be base stealers (7CS, 15ATT).

Camacaro played 11 games with Buffalo during the 2006 season and hit .211 (8-38) with 4RBI.

Haad hit .159 (10-63) with 3RBI in 25 games for the Bisons this year. Last season, the catcher hit .301 (34-113) in 35 games.

Velandia was signed by the Indians as a minor league free agent on May 26 and has appeared in 16 games for the Bisons (.235, 16-68, 2B, 2RBI). He spent the first part of 2008 with Syracuse where he hit .287 (27-94) with 3HR and 12RBI in 28 games and later appeared in 2 games with the Toronto Blue Jays in May (0-7).
