Detroit Tiger Gary Sheffield expected to play in Lakeland Sunday, June 22

Detroit Tigers designated hitter, Gary Sheffield is expected to continue his major league rehab assignment with the Flying Tigers on Sunday, June 22nd in Lakeland. Sheffield is scheduled to start as the designated hitter for the Flying Tigers when the team returns to Joker Marchant Stadium on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. against the Jupiter Hammerheads.

Sheffield suffered a strained oblique on Monday, May 26th against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. At the time, he was batting .213 with 29 hits, 7 doubles, 3 home runs, and 12 RBI. In 2007, Sheffield became only the seventh player in major league history to total at least 2,500 hits, 450 home runs, 1,500 RBI, and 200 stolen bases.

Sunday is Kids Day at the ballpark. All kids (14 and under) will receive free admission and a coupon for a free sundae courtesy of Dairy Queen. Kids will also have the opportunity to play catch on the field prior to the start of the game and run the bases at the conclusion of the game.

Tickets for the game can be purchased online in the "Tickets" section at www.LakelandFlyingTigers.com or at the Joker Marchant Stadium Box Office located at 2301 Lakeland Hills Boulevard in Lakeland. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Box seats are $6 and reserved seats are $5. Seniors (55 and over) and children (14 and under) receive a $1 discount. Parking is free.
