Dodgers Infielder Nomar Garciaparra to Join 51s on ML Rehab Assignment
Garciaparra, according to the Dodgers Public Relations Department, will join Las Vegas for a second ML Rehab assignment this season. Garciaparra appeared in three games for the 51s (at Sacramento) from April 12-14 and batted .300 (3-for-10). This season, he has appeared in 9 games for the Dodgers and is batting .226 (7-for-31) with one home run and 5 RBI.
He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 26 with a strained left calf. He was then transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list on May 25.
Garciaparra is in his third season with the Dodgers. Last season, he appeared in 121 games and batted .283 (122-for-431) with 17 doubles, 7 home runs and 59 RBI. He is a six-time All-Star and is in his 12th Major League season and, in 2006, was named the National League Comeback Player of the Year. He captured two American League batting titles in 1999 (.357) and 2000 (career-high .372) as a member of the Boston Red Sox and is the last Major League player to earn back-to-back batting titles.
