Kevin Barker Blasted a Grand Slam, his Fourth in a Louisville Uniform

June 17, 2008
Rochester, NY - The Louisville Bats scored in the first four frames and went on to defeat the Rochester Red Wings, 10-9, Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Louisville split the series and the eight-game road trip.

Norris Hopper doubled to start the game and scored after consecutive Rochester errors. Jeff Keppinger, Drew Anderson and Ryan Hanigan loaded the bases for Kevin Barker who blasted a grand slam, his fourth in a Louisville uniform. Barker's slam was his second of the season (fourth for the Bats this year) and ties him with Brandon Larson for most in a career.

Keppinger hit a solo homer in the second inning, and in the third, Barker, Adam Rosales and Luis Bolivar all singled to start the frame. Andy Green plated Barker when he was hit by a pitch and Michael Griffin singled, scoring Rosales and Bolivar.

The Bats scored their 10th run on an Anderson solo shot in the top of the fourth.

Bats starter Justin Mallett did not fare well, allowing six runs and walking four in 1.2 innings, but did not factor into the decision. Matt Belisle (4-0, 5.29) picked up the win, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings. Jon Adkins earned his 14th save of the season. Keppinger, Anderson, Hanigan, Barker and Bolivar all had a two-hit game for the Bats. Anderson's hitting streak also stayed intact, extending to 12 consecutive games.

Chris Basak went 4-for-5 for the Red Wings and former Louisville catcher Ryan Jorgensen went 2-for-4 with a double.

The Bats have an off day on Wednesday and begin an eight-game homestand with Buffalo and Rochester Thursday, June 19. LHP Matt Maloney (6-3, 4.92) is scheduled to start for the Bats and will oppose LHP John Halama (1-1, 6.55).
