Cedeno Stops Missions

June 29, 2008
The Tulsa Drillers opened a three-game series in San Antonio Sunday night. The pitching match-up in the opener seemed to favor the Missions with Texas League All-Star Will Inman taking the mound for San Antonio, but it was Tulsa's Xavier Cedeno that stole the spotlight. The lefthander recorded his fourth straight win as the Drillers blanked the Missions 4-0.

Cedeno worked 7.2 scoreless innings to improve his season record to 7-6. He allowed only six hits and did not walk a batter in the shutout performance.

Eduardo Valdez worked a perfect 1.1 relief innings to complete the shutout.

The Drillers took a lead they never relinquished with a run in the top of the first inning. Corey Wimberly, after reaching on a fielder's choice, moved into scoring postion by stealing second base. Dexter Fowler then brought him home with an RBI single that made it 1-0.

A two-run triple by Eric Young Jr. in the second inning increased the lead to 3-0.

The Drillers closed out the game's scoring in the fifth as Fowler doubled and scored on a base hit by Jeff Kindel.

Inman was tagged for the loss, dropping his record to 8-4. He surrendered seven hits and four runs in 5.2 innings.

The win improved Tulsa's second-half record to 5-4 and kept them in a first-place tie with Springfield in the North Division standings.

The Drillers and Missions will play game two of their series Monday night. Tulsa's Chaz Roe (2-0, 3.00 ERA) will look for his third win, while San Antonio will counter with Matthew Buschmann (6-5, 3.48 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.
