Chiefs to welcome former Cy Young Award winner Ron Guidry

The Syracuse Chiefs announced today that former New York Yankees left-hander Ron Guidry will make a special appearance at the team's 7:15 pm game on Tuesday, July 29 against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Guidry will throw out the game's ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs for fans during the game.

Guidry, who was used almost exclusively as a starter during his career in New York, recorded a total of 23 saves while pitching out of the bullpen for the Chiefs during parts of the 1975 and '76 seasons.

The native of Lafayette, Louisiana compiled a career big league record of 170-91 with a 3.29 ERA in 368 games (323 starts). His names appears among the Yankees' all-time top 10 in several pitching categories and his uniform number 49 was retired by the team on August 23, 2003.

Guidry's best season came in 1978 when he won 25 games against only three losses with a 1.74 ERA and 248 strikeouts in 278 innings pitched. His 25th win of the season came on October 2 against the Boston Red Sox in a one-game playoff for the American League East Division title. Guidry was awarded the American League Cy Young Award following the season.

In addition to the Cy Young Award, the southpaw was also a five-time AL Gold Glove winner (1982-'86), a four-time AL All-Star (1978, '79, '82, '83), and a member of two World Series Championship teams (77, '78).

After throwing out the game's ceremonial first pitch, Guidry will return to the concourse to sign autographs for the general public from 7:30 pm - 8:15 pm. There will be a limit of one autographed item per person and personalization and photographs will not be permitted. The stadium gates will open at 6:00 pm.

Guidry will sign autographs on the concourse for season ticket holders only between 6:00 pm and 6:45 pm. Season ticket holders wishing to participate in this early signing must pick up an autograph ticket from the Chiefs Ticket office prior to 5:00 pm on Friday, July 25.

Fans are always encouraged to purchase Chiefs tickets in advance to get the best seats and to avoid waiting in line at the ticket office. The fastest and easiest way to buy Chiefs tickets is from the Chiefs Online Ticket Office, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Chiefs Ticket Office at Alliance Bank Stadium or by calling 315-474-7833 during normal business hours. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm, Saturdays starting at 9am (game days only) and Sundays starting at 9am (2pm game time) or 12 noon (6pm game time).
