PawSox blanked by Bulls in Port Charlotte

March 29, 2013

The Pawtucket Red Sox were blanked by the Durham Bulls, 6-0 on Friday afternoon in Port Charlotte, FL.  The PawSox were held to just four hits including two by catcher Dan Butler (single and double) in dropping to 6-8-1 on the spring with one game remaining.

Rubby De La Rosa started and did not allow a hit but he was charged with one unearned run.  De La Rosa, who came over from the Dodgers last August, is expected to be in Pawtucket's starting rotation.  He walked the lead-off batter in the bottom of the 1st-inning and then made an errant pick-off throw allowing that runner to get to 3rd-base where he eventually scored on a sac fly.

Chris Carpenter followed and went 3-innings giving up 2 hits and 1 run with 3 strikeouts.  Jose De La Torre was sharp firing two perfect innings with 3 strikeouts as he K'd the side in the 7th-inning.  Pedro Beato entered to start the 8th with the PawSox down 2-0 and gave up 4 runs in his lone inning to make the final 6-0.

The PawSox host Rochester on Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers before breaking camp and heading to McCoy Stadium on Sunday.
