Fluor Field to Host Special Screening of "The Sandlot"
Baseball fans from all across America have been captivated by "The Sandlot" for two decades now, and those who don't already own the movie are in luck. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has released their 20th Anniversary Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack of "The Sandlot" and it is now available in stores.
Greenville Drive fans who enjoy the movie are also in luck. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has planned a special screening tour of professional ballparks around the country as part of the film's 20th anniversary, and fans in Greenville will get an opportunity for a special viewing of the film on the DriveVision board at Fluor Field on April 19th while enjoying Drive Concessions. Fluor Field will mark the second stop on the yearlong Sandlot Tour.
The Field Street gates will open for the screening at 6 PM, with the screening starting at 7PM. As an added bonus, all fans who purchase tickets will get a chance to meet David Mickey Evans, the film's director, writer and narrator. Evans will introduce the film and will be available for signings, photographs and a Q&A following the screening.
"The Sandlot" has been described as "a charming and whimsical comedy about boys and baseball and a GREAT BIG DOG" ("Siskel & Ebert"), and it has been consistently ranked as one of the top sports movies of all time.
The movie is told from the point of view of Scotty Smalls, a fifth-grader who is new in town. He tries to join a group of friends who play baseball all day, but he becomes the target for teasing when they find out he can't throw a baseball. After a little help from group leader Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, Scotty quickly picks up the game and becomes one of the guys. But they'll all need each other's help when they find themselves in the biggest pickle any of them have ever seen!
There will be Sandlot merchandise available for sale, including the 20th Anniversary Blu-ray+DVD combo pack, pictures, scripts, baseballs and more.
Tickets are now on sale at the Drive Box Office. Presale ticket prices are $7 for an individual and $20 for a Family Four Pack, which will not be available on the day of the screening. The ticket price is $10 on the day of the screening. A portion of the ticket sales proceeds will be donated to the "Sandlot Baseball Field Program", a program that is coordinating baseball field renovations all across the country.
