Derek Carr to throw out the Opening Day first pitch
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr will be the Fresno Grizzlies' special guest to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Grizzlies' 2013 season opener, the team announced today. The 2012 Kerman High School baseball team, winners of the 52nd Anniversary Hot Stove Team of the Year award, will also be recognized on the field prior to first pitch.
The Grizzlies kick off the 2013 campaign on Thursday, April 4th at Chukchansi Park with the first of four games against the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Derek Carr is set to return to return for his senior season this fall for the Fresno State football team. Last year, Carr was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and an All-American by Sports Illustrated. Fresno State went 9-4 overall in 2012 and won the Mountain West championship in its first season in the league.
The Kerman High School varsity baseball team, coached by Jay Preuss, captured the Division IV Central Section championship in 2012. The Lions also won the North Sequoia League championship for the third consecutive season. They finished with a 22-9 record during their 2012 title run. They were recognized on February 7th during the Grizzlies' Hot Stove event. Preuss also earned the 2013 Hot Stove Coach of the Year award.
