Former ValleyCat Salamida Promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi

Watervliet native one stop closer to Major Leagues
August 1, 2008
TROY, N.Y. - On Wednesday evening, former ValleyCat and Watervliet, N.Y. native Chris Salamida was promoted to Houston Astros' Double-A affiliate Corpus Christi. Salamida had spent the last two seasons with Class-A Salem. A member of the 2006 Stedler Division Champion ValleyCats, Salamida was named the New York-Penn League's Most Spectacular Pitcher that season.

Salamida, a starter his first two professional seasons, was moved to the bullpen in 2008. In 36 games with Salem, Salamida compiled a 4-2 record with 11 saves. He was promoted to Corpus Christi on Wednesday to replace the injured Evan Englebrook, member of the 2004 ValleyCats. Jordan Powell, 2007 ValleyCat, was promoted to Salem.

The Houston Astros selected Salamida in the 13th round of the 2006 MLB Draft. The left-handed pitcher began his professional debut in dominating fashion with a 10-1 record and a 1.06 ERA, earning him the league's Most Spectacular Pitcher Award and a spot on the All-Star team.
