Cuevas with Big Night in Quakes' Win

April 6, 2013

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Noel Cuevas' RBI single snapped an eighth-inning tie, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rallied for an 8-7 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga.

Cuevas had a big night, with three hits and two RBIs, but his opposite-field single to right field scored Darnell Sweeney with the go-ahead run, putting the Quakes ahead to stay against Storm reliever Luis De La Cruz (0-2).

Michael Thomas earned his second save in three days, as he worked a scoreless ninth inning, leaving Cory Spangenberg stranded at second base, as he fanned Yeison Asencio to end the game.

O'Koyea Dickson's first-inning home run to right field had the Quakes up 2-0, but the Storm would score the game's next five runs, putting them up three at 5-2.

Rancho rallied for five in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Rob Garvey doubling home a pair of runs to tie the game at 5-5.  Garvey later scored on an RBI double by Cuevas, making it 6-5.  Angelo Songco followed with an RBI double of his own, putting the Quakes in front by two at 7-5.

The Storm would draw even in the seventh though, as eventual winner Craig Stem (1-0) surrendered a two-run single to Kyle Gaedele, evening the game at 7-7.

The victory moves the Quakes (2-1) into a first-place tie in the South Division.  Rancho will send Ross Stripling to the mound in his Cal League debut on Sunday afternoon, as they look to take three of four from the Storm.  Lake Elsinore will counter with second-year Storm hurler Matt Jackson.   Game time on Sunday is 2:05pm.

Sunday is our first of four U.S. Bank Youth Baseball Clinics, as with the purchase of a ticket to the game, kids can enjoy baseball instruction and autographs from Quakes' players and coaches, all thanks to U.S. Bank.  Registration begins at 9am and the clinic begins at 10am.  Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.  We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field…Go Quakes!
