Captains and Legends Split Series
The Legends scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning against Captains starter Ryan Miller when Pellegrini hit a two run home run and it was 2-0. Jonathan Holt replaced Miller with runners at first and third and no outs in the third inning. He struck out the first two batters he faced before Brandon Barnes singled in a run to make it 3-0.
The Captains got their only run off of Legends starter Anthony Bello in the fourth inning when Jeff Hehr doubled home Richard Martinez to cut the lead to 3-1. Eric Taylor hit a two run home run off of Captains reliever Paolo Espino in the bottom of the seventh inning to up the lead to 5-1.
Miller saw his record fall to 7-7 going only 2+ innings allowing three runs on only one hit but walking a season high six batters. Holt threw three scoreless innings striking gout four. Paolo Espino came on in the sixth inning and pitched two innings giving up the two runs while striking out three. Dallas Cawiezell pitched the eighth inning and struck out the side. Bello picked up the win to up his record to 7-5 and Reid Kelly threw the final 2.1 innings to pick up his third save.
The Captains will return to Classic Park on Wednesday for a four games series against the Delmarva Shorebirds with game tine at 7:05 PM. The Captains will send RHP Joey Mahalic (6-4, 4.16) to the mound to face the Shorebirds LHP Chris Salberg (0-2, 3.81). Wednesday will be a WIN BIG WEDNESDAY. The Captains will give away $1000 in cash and prizes as the first 1,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive an envelope containing anything from a dime to a certificate for $500 cash. WIN BIG WEDNESDAY will take place every Wednesday for the rest of the 2008 season.
Wednesday night is also senior night where all fans will be able to play BINGO at the ballpark with the chance to win great prizes throughout the ballgame. BINGO is Presented by Lake County Council on Aging.
Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Play Offs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Play Offs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Play Offs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
