Ondrusek first 2013 Wahoo called up to Reds
Logan Ondrusek became the first Blue Wahoo in 2013 to be promoted to Cincinnati on Wednesday, as he was recalled prior to the Reds game against the Cardinals. In three games with Pensacola, Ondrusek gave up just one hit and struck out one in 2.1 innings.
"He was real coachable for a guy that's been in the big leagues and had success" Pensacola manger Delino DeShields said. "It was good having him around."
Ondrusek became the first player under Delino DeShields to be promoted straight to the majors. The big righty was recalled to Cincinnati as a result of reliever Sean Marshall being placed on the disabled list with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder.
The main reason Ondrusek was sent to Pensacola to start the season with his former pitching coach Tom Brown. The two had previously worked together in A-ball and Brown was helpful in the development of Ondrusek's cutter.
"I've seen him go from almost being released to being an all-star pitcher in the Florida State League to being a big league pitcher so it was fun to have him back," Brown said. "He was trying to develop his cutter he found two years ago and by the last time he was here he had found it again."
Ondrusek wasted no time seeing game action in Cinncinnati. He made his first appearance with the Reds the day he was called up, pitching an inning against the Cardinals in the Reds' 10-0 loss in St. Louis.
