Four ValleyCats Selected as All-Stars
Disher has enjoyed a tremendous season with the ValleyCats. A 15th round selection in the 2008 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, Disher has been a triple crown candidate since Opening Day. Through 52 games, Disher is tied with Miguel Fermin of Jamestown for the league lead with 11 home runs. Disher also leads the league with 62 hits and 41 runs batted in while hitting .313. Disher will also be participating in the All-Star Home Run Derby at 6:00 pm on the August 19.
T.J. Steele, a fourth round selection from the University of Arizona, also earned a nod to the Midsummer Classic. Steele has played an excellent centerfield for the 'Cats while hitting .282 with three home runs and 21 RBI.
The New York-Penn League leading run scorer, J.B. Shuck, will be patrolling the outfield for the National League affiliates. Shuck has hit a consistent .299 this season while crossing the plate 42 times. Shuck has also displayed a tremendous patience at the plate, earning 26 walks to just 22 strikeouts.
Philip Rummel has showcased remarkable control this season, striking out 27 while walking just five in 31.1 innings of work. Rummel has compiled a 2-0 record with a 1.72 ERA this season.
The four ValleyCats All-Stars will participate in the two-day All-Star celebration at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, N.Y. On Monday, August 18 the all of the All-Stars will attend the downtown Troy Fan Fest featuring a FREE concert by Eddie Money. The 2008 New York-Penn League All-Star Game is Tuesday, August 19. A pre-game Home Run Derby commences at 6:00 pm with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 pm.
