Captains Sweep Catfish

(Columbus, GA) - The Captains had another big offensive inning and overcame a 4-1 deficit on their way to a series sweep, by defeating the Columbus Catfish on Thursday 6-4. This was the fourth game of the series where the Captains used a big inning to take a lead that they would not lose.

For the fourth time in the series, the Captains scored first. Ron Rivas doubled home Adam Davis in the second inning against Catfish starter Jason Ragan and it was 1-0. The lead was short lived as the Catfish put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning off of Captains starter Joanniel Montero on a RBI double by Chase Fontaine and a ground out by Omar Luna and the Fish led for the first time in the series 2-1.

The Catfish made it 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Shawn O'Malley doubled home two runs. The Captains sent eleven men to the plate in the top of the sixth inning scoring five runs on four hits and four walks. Karexon Sanchez had two RBI's and Chris Nash, Matt Brown and Davis chipped in one apiece and the Captains regained the lead 6-4.

Montero got the win to up his record drop to 3-6 going five innings allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out three. Dallas Cawiezell came on in the sixth inning and pitched two scoreless innings striking out two. John Gaub relieved Cawiezell in the eighth inning and pitched two scoreless innings and picked up his first save of the year. Jose Mejias took the loss and his record dropped to 2-2.

The Captains travel to Rome on Friday to start a four game series with the Braves. The Captains will send LHP Ryan Morris (8-4, 3.50) to the mound against Braves LHP Richard Sullivan (1-2, 3.70). The Captains return home on Wednesday August 20th to wrap up the regular season portion of the home schedule as they host the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Captains will host the SAL playoffs beginning on September 5th.

Tickets for the Play Offs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Play Offs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
