Knights Lose to Gwinnett 8-7 in Finale

(Fort Mill, SC) -The Charlotte Knights completed their two-game series with the Gwinnett Braves on Friday with an 8-7 loss. Gwinnett hit three home runs en route to their fifth win of the season against the Charlotte Knights in six games. 

Gwinnett reliever Cory Rasmus (1-0, 1.50) allowed one unearned run over two innings to earn the victory. Second baseman Tyler Pastornicky went 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Ernesto Mejia and Joey Terdoslavich also chipped in with home runs.

Brian Omogrosso (0-1, 15.00) allowed five runs on six hits over two innings and was saddled with the loss. Knights starter Simon Castro allowed three runs on six hits over six innings in Friday's finale. Castro did not factor in the decision. 

Offensively for the Knights, Luis Durango extended his hit streak to eight games, while Jordan Danks added two hits for the team. Durango is currently hitting .382 on the season.

Before the game, Knights catcher Josh Phegley accepted his MiLB Rawlings Gold Glove Award. MiLB President Pat O'Conner was on-hand to give Phegley his award.

Country Music Recording Artist and Eight Time Women's Wrestling champion Mickie James was also on-hand to meet and greet fans. James threw out the ceremonial first pitch after her pre-game singing performance.

The Knights will continue their homestand on Saturday with game one of a four-game series against the Durham Bulls. RHP Matt Zaleski (1-0, 0.00) will take the mound for the Knights, while the Bulls will hand the ball to RHP Jake Odirizzi (1-0, 0.00). Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
