P-Rays Game-Worn Home Jersey Tops to Be Auctioned on August 23
The jersey tops have been in use in Princeton since the beginning of the 2002 season and through the past seven seasons have been worn by major leaguers Jason Hammel, Wes Bankston, Elliot Johnson and Reid Brignac as well as rising minor league stars like Wade Davis, Jason Pridie, Jacob McGee, Desmond Jennings, Jeremy Hellickson, and current P-Ray shortstop Tim Beckham, who was the number one overall pick of the 2008 amateur baseball draft.
The home jersey tops will be auctioned off at Hunnicutt Field immediately following the P-Rays' last home game of the year on Saturday, August 23. In the event the game would not be played, the auction would still be held at the same site with a possible earlier starting time. The road jersey tops will be auctioned off at a site and time to be determined, most likely in either September or October. The site and time of the road jersey tops auction are expected to be announced shortly after the completion of the 2008 Appalachian League season.
The proceeds from the auction will go directly to Princeton Baseball Association, Inc. (the operator of the Princeton Rays) into the operation's general funds to help to offset a disasterous season that to date has seen the franchise suffer an already single-season record of eight home game cancellations.
Minimum opening bid for each jersey top will be $35.00. Persons from outside the area who are unable to attend the auction in person can place an absentee bid until noon on Saturday, August 23. The phone-in bids will also require the bidder to supply their credit card number. Bids can be phoned directly to Mr. Michael Eades at (304) 320-7470. Mr. Eades is the owner of Four Seasons Antiques and Appraisals of Princeton, who is handling the auction for the P-Rays.
Long-time fan of professional baseball in Princeton, Anita Eades (WV auctioneer's license# 1815) of Four Seasons Antiques and Appraisals of Princeton, will be the auctioneer for the event. The company, a regular supporter of professional baseball in Princeton, are donating their services to help with this function for the team.
