Mitchinson moves up to Stockton

Ninth player from Opening Day roster receives promotion
August 19, 2008
GENEVA, Ill. -- The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that pitcher Scott Mitchinson has been promoted to Class A Advanced Stockton. The right-handed pitcher flew out of Chicago this morning and joins the Ports for the season's home stretch. No countermove has been announced at this time, meaning the Cougars' active roster has been reduced to 22 players -- its thinnest roster this season -- for today's 1 p.m. game vs. Wisconsin.

Mitchinson becomes the ninth Cougar from this year's Opening Day roster to receive a promotion, and the third Kane County All-Star who has received the California callup in 2008, reuniting with Cougars All-Stars Craig Italiano and Corey Brown. After spending six weeks on the disabled list with an elbow injury, Mitchinson made two appearances with the Cougars after being reinstated from the DL on Aug. 12. In his most recent and final start at Kane County, the Australia native pitched four innings of two-hit ball in a no-decision against Wisconsin. Overall this season, Mitchinson was 5-3 with a 1.74 ERA in 14 games (13 starts).

The Cougars (27-30) and Timber Rattlers (19-38) conclude their four-game set Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT. Jamie Richmond (7-9, 4.74) is scheduled to face Phillippe Aumont (4-4, 2.79) before the Cougars are off Wednesday and begin an eight-game road trip Thursday.
