P-Nats Shortstop Jason Martinson Wins Carolina League Player of the Week Award

Martinson's Hot Start to 2013 Campaign Earns Prospect the League's POW Award

Woodbridge, VA----After a scorching start to the 2013 season, shortstop Jason Martinson (5th Rd.,2010), a product of Texas State University, from Dallas, TX, has earned the Carolina League's first 2013 Player of the Week Award (April 4th through April 14th).

Martinson, the #14 prospect in the Washington Nationals Minor League system per Baseball America, began the 4/4 to 4/14 period holding a .303 (10-for-33) batting average, a .429 on base percentage, and a .788 slugging percentage through nine games.

The 24-year-old connected on a pair of doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 11 RBIs.

Martinson also scored nine runs while working six walks and stole one base during his tear.

The 6'1" 190 pound Nationals prospect enters tonight's contest in Salem, VA against the Red Sox tied for the Carolina League lead with his 11 runs batted in.
