Greenwalt named Astros' MVP
The 19-year-old Pennsylvania native came to Greeneville as Houston's 20th-round selection in 2007. The right-hander established himself with the Astros this season as he started a team-high 13 games and was named the Opening Day starter at Kingsport.
Greenwalt began to hit his stride in mid-July when he did not allow a run in back-to-back starts against Bluefield and Elizabethton. Over 12 innings in those two wins, he gave up just six hits and struck out nine without walking any batters.
Kyle's six wins led the team and was tied for third in the league as he finished 6-4. He also led the team with 71 2/3 innings pitched, which was the fifth-highest total in the Appalachian League. He posted a 3.14 ERA while striking out 53 and walking just 15 batters.
Greenwalt was rewarded for his consistent success this season with a promotion to the Tri-City ValleyCats on Tuesday.
