Florida State League Announces Post-Season All-Stars
DH Brian Dopirak was hitting .308 with 25 doubles, 27 home runs, 77 runs and 88 RBIs when he was called up in August to Double-A New Hampshire. This is Dopirak's first season with the Blue Jays organization. Brian was originally draft by the Cubs in the 2nd round of the 2002 First Year Player Draft. He was drafted directly out of Dunedin High School, making this season a homecoming of sorts.
OF Cory Patton ended the regular season hitting .305 with 30 doubles, 13 home runs, 70 runs and 70 RBIs for the Dunedin Blue Jays. Cory is spending his second full season with the Dunedin Blue Jays. In 2007 the Florida State League named him to the Mid-Season All-Star team. Patton was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 6th round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft out of Texas A&M.
2B Brad Emaus has been on fire recently for the Dunedin Blue Jays making his total season numbers .302 average with 34 doubles, 12 home runs, 87 runs and 71 RBIs. Brad is spending his first season with the Dunedin Blue Jays after spending 2007 in Auburn. Emaus was drafted in the 11th round of the 2007 First Year Player Draft by the Blue Jays out of Tulane University.
SP Reidier Gonzalez has been amazing on the mound all season for the Dunedin Blue Jays as he compiled a 12-4 record with a 3.14 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 137.2 innings pitched. Reidier is in his first season with Dunedin after spending 2007 in Lansing. Gonzalez was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 19th round of the 2005 First Year Player Draft from St. Petersburg College.
Manager Omar Malave was named Manager of the Year in the FSL. He has led the Dunedin squad to their fourth playoff appearance in the last five seasons. This year he has put together a team that took the second half title with a record of 48-20. The 85-53 record this season is the best mark Omar has had with the Dunedin Blue Jays. He has a career mark of 1131-1013 for a winning percentage of .896 as a manager.
