Nathan Karns Earns EL Pitcher of the Week Award

First Senator this year to win a weekly award

Harrisburg, PA - Harrisburg Senators' pitcher Nathan Karns has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 15-21. He is the first Sens pitcher to win the award this season. He becomes the first Senators pitcher to earn the pitcher of the week award since Danny Rosenbaum won the award for the same week last season.

Nathan Karns, a 6'3", 230 lb. starting pitcher for the Senators, hurler started one game for the Senators last week and had a record of 1-0 with 13 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA.  Karns, who is a native of Franklin, Pennsylvania, made his lone start of the week on Saturday in the opening game of a doubleheader against the visiting Altoona Curve, and threw the first complete game by an Eastern League pitcher this season in a 4-1 victory.  He recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts and surrendered just one run on two hits and one walk while earning his first career win at the Double-A level.  The 25-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in WHIP (0.43) and complete games (1) last week and also ranked among the weekly leaders in batting average against (.087-2nd), strikeouts (13-4th), wins (1-tied 6th) and ERA (1.29-tied 10th).  Nathan, who was the Nationals' 2012 Minor League Pitcher of the Year after combining to go 11-4 with 148 strikeouts and a 2.17 ERA in 24 appearances with the Hagerstown Suns and the Potomac Nationals last season, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 12th round of the 2009 draft out of Texas Tech University.
