Asst GM Tim Altier is set to take the reins while Mavs GM Derrel Ebert moves north
September 11, 2008
The High Desert Mavericks and their parent company, Brett Sports, are excited to announce that Tim Altier has accepted the job as General Manager of the High Desert Mavericks. The Mavs have once again been fortunate to have the opportunity to promote from within as Altier has spent the past three seasons with the Mavs, most recently as the Assistant General Manager of Sponsorships. Derrel Ebert, who was the GM for the past two years, has accepted a position with another Brett Sports team, the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.

"The Mavs are definitely in good hands with Altier at the helm," said Mavericks President Brent Miles. "He's been an integral part of the front office for the past three years, and he's ready to step up and lead the team in 2009."

Altier takes over as the GM of the Mavericks, a team that has promoted him after each of the last three seasons. He was hired at the 2005 Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas as an Account Executive for the Mavs, his top choice out of five job offers. "The energy and excitement of the staff that I met at the Winter Meetings was contagious, and I was excited to join their team," said Altier. "I'm looking forward to leading this tremendous organization next season, and I'm elated at the opportunity I've been given by Brett Sports."

Derrel Ebert will be the Vice President, General Manager, and part-owner of the Bells. Ebert has spent seven years in Minor League Baseball, including four seasons in High Desert over two stints with the team, and four years as a General Manager (two with the Mavs and two with the Tri-City Dust Devils, which is another Brett Sports team). "My wife and I are thrilled about the opportunity of moving north. I have always had a dream of having ownership in a baseball team and thanks to the best ownership group in baseball, Brett Sports, I have achieved that dream," said Ebert on his new position in Bellingham. Ebert continued to say, "after 20 years in the High Desert, there are a lot of people I will miss, especially the great Mavericks fans that have supported our team over the past 18 years. It has been an honor to be the GM of a team I was a huge fan of when I was a kid."

The Mavericks are anticipating their 2009 schedule will be released in the next couple weeks.
