Pelicans Soar Past Keys, 10-3
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - After topping the Pelicans by eight runs on Tuesday night, Myrtle Beach returned the favor in game three of the four-game set. The Pelicans scored a pair of runs in the third inning, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth inning en route to a seven run victory. The Keys did not help the cause committing three errors on the night. Steve Bumbry and Jason Esposito each belted a home run in the loss.
Myrtle Beach broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning. Facing RHP Zach Petersime, SS Luis Sardinas led off the frame with a triple off the base of the wall in left field. 1B Trever Adams picked up a RBI with an infield single. 3B Drew Robinson brought home Adams later in the inning on a fielder's choice.
The Pelicans tacked on three more runs off Petersime in the bottom of the fourth. With Jake Skole on second and Chris Grayson on first, Luis Sardinas singled home Skole to put Myrtle Beach up, 3-0. Trever Adams capped off the three-run inning with a two-run double. Adams' double ended the night for Petersime. Over 3.1 innings of work, Petersime allowed five runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out two.
The hits kept on coming in the sixth inning as Myrtle Beach added three more runs and held an eight run advantage. Only one of the three runs in the sixth was an unearned against RHP Matt Bischoff.
At the plate, the Keys struggled to pick up hits against RHP Jerad Eickhoff. LF Steve Bumbry put Frederick on the board with a solo home run to center field. Bumbry's homer was his first of the season. 1B Jason Esposito lined a two-run shot over the left field fence in the seventh inning. Esposito's two-run blast cut the Keys' deficit to five runs.
Eickhoff exited Wednesday night's game after tossing a career-high 7.1 innings. He allowed three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out six. Eickhoff picked up the win and improved to 2-2 on the season while Zach Petersime dropped to 0-2.
The Keys and Pelicans will close out their four-game series on Thursday night at TicketReturn.com Field. RHP Zach Davies (1-1, 4.50) will start for the Keys while Myrtle Beach will turn to RHP Alex Asher (1-1, 4.91). First pitch in Myrtle Beach is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning on 1450 AM The Source at 6:35 p.m. with the Frederick Gorilla Pregame Show.
