PawSox drop Yankees 5-1...Magic Number 9
(Pawtucket, RI) - The PawSox stopped the Yankees juggernaut on Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium 5-1. The victory moved Pawtucket to a game and a half out of first in the North. With the win and Toledo's loss to Louisville, the Sox have a magic number of 9 to clinch a playoff berth. Edgar Martinez (7-2) got the win with six, sensational, shutout innings of work. "El Guapo" scattered 4 hits. Jeff Bailey, Sandy Madera, Jeff Corsaletti and Josh Wilson had 2 hits apiece. Madera blasted a tape-measure homer onto the roof of the centerfield concession stand. The season series is over with the Yankees at 8 wins each. The next time these 2 teams meet would be in the post-season. The PawSox hit the road for two in Syracuse and two in Buffalo. The series with the Chiefs begins on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. David Pauley (13-4) faces Davis Romero (5-0).
