Delta State to face JSU at Trustmark Park
The game will take place Wednesday, March 8 with first pitch slated for 7 p.m. The gates at Trustmark Park will open at 6 p.m.
General Admission tickets for the game will sell for $6 while fans with a Delta State University or Jackson State University student ID can gain admission for $3.
Dave "Boo" Ferris will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the game. Mr. Ferris is a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and a native of Shaw, Mississippi. He was the first baseball player to receive a full scholarship to Mississippi State University and played there in 1941 and 1942.
After a stint in the military, Ferris returned to the Red Sox where he set the record for the most scoreless innings to start a career with 22. He went 25-6 in 1946, leading the Red Sox to the American League Pennant. He is a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, the Mississippi State University Sports Hall of Fame, and the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. On November 14, 2002, he was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.
