Inland Empire Evens Series With 10 Inning Win
Lancaster, CA- - There was no quit in the 66ers Saturday night in Lancaster. Ryan Jones and Zach Borenstein provided extra inning home runs to help power the Inland Empire 66ers (12-11) to a come from behind, 10-7, 10 inning victory over the division leading Lancaster JetHawks (14-8).
Early things looked awful for the Inland Empire. After four innings Inland Empire was not only being shutout but they were being no-hit as well. Their pitching coach and manager had been ejected from the game, and they were trailing 5-0. But once the 5th inning started everything seemed to go the 66ers way.
Inland Empire put three runs on the board in the 5th inning, highlighted by a two run double from Andy Workman. The team cut the deficit to one run in the 8th on a Michael Snyder RBI single, and the bullpen completely shutdown the JetHawks offense for four frames. Eric Cendejas threw two shutout innings, followed by one from Robert Powell to allow Inland Empire to comeback in the game .
That comeback appeared to be completed in the 9th inning when Inland Empire got an RBI double from Ryan Jones to drive in pinch runner Joel capote from first base. Then after a wild pitch, Eric Stamets brought Jones home with a single up the middle to give the 66ers their first lead of the game. Micahel Morin came in for the save and had the JetHawks down to their last out , but Zach Johnson extended the game with a solo home run to tie things at six.
In the extra inning the 66ers wasted no time taking control of the contest. Zach Borenstein drilled a two run homer to center to make it 8-6, and Jones doubled the advantage with a homer well over the right field wall. Morin allowed one run in the bottom of the inning but held on to earn the win.
