Let's Play Two...Doubleheaders!

April 29, 2013

(Fort Mill, SC) - The Charlotte Knights and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will officially kick-off their four-game series tonight at Knights Stadium at 5:15 p.m. after rain washed away games over the weekend.

On Saturday, the two teams were set to open the series, but Mother Nature had other plans. On Sunday, the two teams had a doubleheader on tap, but once again rain postponed baseball in Fort Mill.

Tonight, RHP Simon Castro (0-3, 5.48) will get the nod in game one of the doubleheader for the Knights. Castro will vie for his first win of the season and will look to get the Knights back in the win column. The Knights have lost eight of their last 10 games and are 7-16 on the season - last in the International League South Division.

On the hill for the RailRiders in game one on Monday will be RHP Dellin Betaces (1-2, 8.04). Betances, a New York native, will look to build off his best start of the season. The 25-year-old allowed just one run over seven sharp innings on April 23 over Columbus for his first win of the year. He also fanned a season-high seven batters.

In game two on Monday, the Knights will hand the ball to RHP Matt Zaleski (1-1, 5.14). Zaleski is among the Knights All-Time leaders in a number of categories and will look to improve upon his worst outing of the season on April 23. Tonight's start will be Zaleski's fifth of the season and 70th of his career with the Knights.

The Knights will face RailRiders RHP Chris Bootcheck (2-0, 0.50), who gets the start in Monday's second game. Bootcheck has enjoyed success this season and is looking for his third-straight win. Bootcheck beat the Chiefs back on April 22 with seven shutout innings.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. on Monday and all fans can take advantage of $1 hot dogs, thanks to Hebrew National.

The Knights will also play a doubleheader on Tuesday with first pitch once again scheduled for 5:15 p.m.

On Tuesday, PGA Tour Pro, heart transplant recipient, and Donate Life Ambassador Erik Compton will throw out Tuesday's ceremonial first pitch.

Erik was born in Miami Florida, where he learned he learned the game of golf at the age of 12. Six years later, Erik became the #1 ranked junior golfer in the United States and the 1998 AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year. He accepted a scholarship to play golf for the University of Georgia, where he went on to become a two time All-American playing on the 2001 Palmer Cup and Walker Cup teams.

Catching Erik's first pitch will be former Yankees farmhand and heart transplant recipient Bobby Height.

Each Tuesday throughout the season, the Knights hold a special "Charitable Tuesday", to benefit a local charity. Tuesday's featured charity is LifeShare Of The Carolinas.

Since 1970, LifeShare Of The Carolinas has successfully coordinated organ transplants throughout southwestern North Carolina as the link between people who need life-saving transplants and the generous individuals who make second chances at life possible. They are committed to saving lives by encouraging the public to join the NC Organ Donor Registry at the DMV or online at www.lifesharecarolinas.org.
