Sea Dogs Win Streak Snapped at 7; Fall 6-5

Workman Recorded Eight Strikeouts Over 5.2 Innings

(Portland, Maine) - Antoan Richardson nailed a two-run double in the eighth inning with two outs, leading the New Britain Rock Cats (15-15) past the Portland Sea Dogs (18-10), 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field in front of 5,048 fans. The loss snapped Portland's seven-game winning streak, but they still hold the league's best record.

Blake Martin (2-1) tossed two scoreless frames to earn his first win of the season against Portland. Aaron Thompson hurled a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.

Pete Ruiz (0-1) was charged with two runs in the eighth and took the loss. Portland led 5-4 after seven innings, but New Britain scored twice in the eighth. Ruiz allowed a single to Mark Sobolewski and a walk to Danny Santana with nobody. Chris Martin entered the game, and yielded the two-run double to Richardson. Martin was not charged with a run, extending his scoreless streak to 19.2 innings.

Portland trailed 3-0 early in the game, but scored five times off Rock Cats' starter Alex Meyer (4.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO). Derrik Gibson put the 'Dogs on the board with a run-scoring single. J.C.
Linares nailed a two-run single, but an error on the right fielder allowed the go-ahead run to score. Tony Thomas followed with an RBI double, giving Portland a 5-3 lead.

Brandon Workman took a no-decision, working 5.2 innings on six hits, four runs (two earned), two walks and eight strikeouts. Workman's final run allowed was a homer to former Sea Dog Reynaldo Rodriguez.

New Britain took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. A.J. Petterson doubled with one out and scored on Yosmil Pinto's run-scoring single to centerfield.

The Rock Cats scored two earned runs in the fifth off Workman. Jonathan Goncalves led off with double. Antoan Richardson reached on a sacrifice-E5 and stole second base. Danny Ortiz drove in his 18th run with a sac-fly and Richardson scored on a throwing error by C Christian Vazquez.

Portland is 7-3 against the Rock Cats this season and 50-28 since last All-Star Break.

The Sea Dogs open up a three-game series with the Reading Fightin Phils on Monday night at Hadlock Field. Game time is 6:00 PM.
