Danks to Start Rehab With Knights on Tuesday

May 7, 2013

(Fort Mill, SC) - Chicago White Sox LHP John Danks will make a Major League Baseball rehab start for the Charlotte Knights tonight as the team faces the Columbus Clippers from Huntington Park in Columbus, OH. First pitch of today's doubleheader is set for 5:05 p.m. and fans can hear all of the action at 94.3 FM WRHI, 1340 AM WRHI, online at wrhi.com, or at charlotteknights.com. Danks will start game one of the twin bill against Columbus RHP Trevor Bauer. Monday's originally scheduled game was postponed due to rain.

Danks is recovering from left shoulder surgery, which he underwent on August 6, 2012. The 27-year-old left-hander recently made a rehab appearance for Double-A Birmingham on May 2 and allowed just two runs over seven innings for the win.

Tonight's start will be his first with the Knights this season. He also made a rehab start for the Knights in Columbus last season. On June 12, 2012, Danks allowed one earned run over four innings for the Knights in a 13-6 win over the Clippers.

Tuesday's Knights lineup will feature both Danks and Dayan Viciedo, who was set to make his first rehab appearance with the Knights last night. The two White Sox stars are the second and third players to rehab with Charlotte this season. LHP Leyson Septimo also appeared for the Knights from April 26-29.

Danks, a native of Austin, Texas, is the older brother of former Knights outfielder Jordan Danks, who is currently playing for the White Sox. The older Danks is one of two pitchers in White Sox history to make at least 25 starts in each of his first five seasons (Tommy Thomas is the other). Danks entered the 2013 season with a career Major League mark of 57-60 with a 4.12 ERA over six seasons in Chicago.

The Knights return home to Knights Stadium on Friday, May 10 to open an eight-game homestand against the Pawtucket Red Sox (May 10-13) and Louisville Bats (May 14-17). Tickets for the upcoming homestand are on-sale now and can be purchased in person at Knights Stadium, by phone at 704-357-8071 ext. 2106, or online at http://www.charlotteknights.com.
