FSL nominates Siegfried for award

October 22, 2008
VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The Florida State League announced that Vero Beach Devil Rays general manager Katie Siegfried is its nominee for the 2008 Rawlings Female Executive of the Year award, presented by Rawlings and based on outstanding contributions by a female executive to a Minor League ball club or league throughout the season.

Siegfried's nomination for the prestigious award, the highest given to a female in Minor League Baseball, follows two successful seasons of increased community involvement from the Vero Beach Devil Rays. In an effort to keep the positive spirit of baseball alive in the Vero Beach community, Katie rallied her staff and decided community outreach would be the first and foremost priority of the team during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

During the past two seasons, the Devil Rays have amped up their community involvement under Katie's leadership and have donated more than $100,000 in cash and gifts-in-kind to charitable organizations in Vero Beach and Indian River county.

Siegfried, a native of Lodi, Calif., has been with the FSL franchise in Vero Beach for four seasons and has served as general manager for two years. The FSL chooses its nominee for the Rawlings Female Executive of the Year award based on a vote from the 12 member teams, and the voted pick is announced at the league's annual meetings, held this year in Vero Beach. Each league in Minor League Baseball nominates a candidate to contend for the Rawlings Female Executive of the Year award, which will be announced in December at an awards luncheon at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Las Vegas.
