Storm sack Nuts by one, avoid sweep

Modesto, CA- On a fireworks Saturday night, The Lake Elsinore Storm finished up a four game series on the road against the Colorado Rockies affiliate, the Modesto Nuts, avoiding the sweep and coming up victorious 4-3.

Storm RHP James Needy pitched six innings giving up only two runs on four hits while striking out four batters.

Trailing by a run in the fourth the Storm tied the game up with an RBI single by Duanel Jones scoring Jace Peterson.

The Lake Elsinore offense broke out for three more runs in the sixth inning with an RBI single from Peterson followed by a two-RBI double by Jones.

The Nuts would add a run in the eighth after an RBI sacrifice fly by Harold Riggins scoring Tim Smalling but Storm Closer Jonny Barbato shutdown the Modesto attack, pitching 1.1 innings and earning his fifth save of the season.

Lake Elsinore will begin a three game road series when they play the Oakland Athletics affiliate, the Stockton Ports Sunday at 2:09 p.m. The Storm will send LHP Frank Garces to the mound as he will battle Stockton RHP Deyvi Jimenez.

The San Diego Padres affiliate will return to the Diamond next Thursday May 23 as they host the Modesto Nuts for a four game series.
