Former Indian Nate McLouth receives MVP vote
McLouth was one of just 27 players to receive a vote in the Baseball Writers Association of America balloting for the National League Most Valuable Player Award. Although the vote was a single 10th place tally, it is just one of the many achievements that has made people across the baseball world stand up and take notice of the young outfielder's star potential going forward.
Along with earning a mid-season All-Star appearance, McLouth led the Pirates in almost every offensive category throughout the 2008 season, including batting average (.276), runs (113), doubles (46), home runs (26), RBI (94) and stolen bases (23). His 46 doubles was a National League best, while his 113 runs ranked fifth.
McLouth also turned in an impressive season in the field picking up a Rawlings Gold Glove Award, after committing just one error in 149 games and finishing with the league's second best fielding percentage among outfielders.
Along with his Gold Glove award, McLouth was also unanimously selected by the Pittsburgh chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America as the recipient of the Roberto Clemente award, which is given to the Pirates' player who best represents the standard of excellence achieved by Clemente.
McLouth made hints toward his future star potential during his time with Indianapolis in 2005, when he led the Tribe with 118 hits and 34 stolen bases, while ranking second with 64 runs in 110 games played.
