Bears Announce Exciting News

March 16, 2006

YAKIMA - The Yakima Bears have announced two major developments about the future of this franchise in the Yakima Valley. Each of these announcements tie into one common theme- the ownership of the Bears is completely dedicated to keeping this franchise in Yakima while providing the best possible fan experience.

Bears General Manager K.L. Wombacher announced that they have reached an agreement with the Central Washington Fair Association on an extension of their lease of Yakima County Stadium, which was set to expire in 2007. The Bears have agreed to lease the stadium until 2015, making a long-term commitment to the Yakima Valley community.

Also proving their dedication to the community, Wombacher announced the Bears' plans to upgrade their current scoreboard to a state-of-the-art video board which will be the only video scoreboard in the Northwest League. Other than the Seattle Mariners' board at Safeco Field, this 12' by 16' LCD Video Screen will be the first one in the state of Washington for baseball stadiums.

"We are very excited to have this video board for the 2006 season. This will surely take our fan experience over the top," said Wombacher. "This significant upgrade will make Yakima County Stadium one of the premier entertainment destinations in the entire state of Washington."

This project is being performed by Chuck Colmenero, President of Dwinell's Visual Systems, a locally owned company. The installation is expected to take place in early May. The Bears begin the 2006 campaign June 19th with the home opener scheduled for Saturday June 24th. With the debut of the new video board and post game fireworks, the Bears anticipate this being the biggest opening night ever.
