Bisons Unveil New Primary Logo
By adopting a blue and orange color scheme, the Bisons also wanted to celebrate their new partnership with the New York Mets.
"We are thrilled to usher in a new era in Buffalo Bisons history with an exciting new logo for our fans to enjoy," said Mike Buczkowski, Vice President/General Manger of the Buffalo Bisons. "With our team's celebrated tradition in this great city and our new major league partnership with the New York Mets, we wanted our new logo design to take an old-fashion feel and give it a modern-looking twist."
This is the first logo change for the Bisons since adopting the "sliding Buster" red and green design in 1998 to correlate with the team's return to the International League.
The Bisons new logo was produced by Phoenix Design Works, who last year designed the inaugural logo for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals -Rich Baseball Operations' Double-A team in the Texas League. For their new design, the Bisons 'modernized' a popular alternate logo from recent seasons that had a standing bison inside a black and white baseball. This new adaptation shows a bison charging out and adds a new dynamic, multi-dimensional feel to an old logo.
The Bisons have played 123 professional seasons in Buffalo, NY with a deep-routed connection to the Queen City. For the past 21 seasons, the Bisons have had a home in the heart of the downtown district at Dunn Tire Park. The team's relationship with Buffalo was added to the new logo design with the city's skyline portrayed behind the charging bison.
Finally, the Bisons have adopted the same blue and orange color scheme to connect with their new major league partner, the New York Mets. In September, the Bisons and Mets signed a two-year player development contract, thus aligning Buffalo with one of the most recognizable names in all of professional sports.
The Bisons also announced that they will have new home, road and alternate uniforms for the 2009 season in conjunction with their new team logo. Those uniforms, and the official on-field caps, will be displayed for the first time at the Bisons Hot Stove Luncheon, Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Adam's Mark Hotel (time TBA).
The Bisons are also offering fans a great opportunity to purchase merchandise with the new team logo. The team has announced a 3-Day Logo Sale, Wednesday, December 17 to Friday, December 19. Anyone who spends $35 at the Batter's Box Gift Shop at Dunn Tire Park or online at Bisons.com will receive 2 Free Tickets to the first fridaynighbash!® of the 2009 season: April 10 against the Pawtucket Red Sox.
