December 18, 2008

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers have released their 2009 season schedule, which includes a home opener against the 2008 Triple-A Champion Sacramento River Cats. This season will mark the 50th anniversary of baseball at Cheney Stadium.

The Rainiers will begin their season on the road with a four-game series that starts April 10th against the Sacramento River Cats. The River Cats will make their way to Tacoma on Friday, April 17th for the Rainiers home opener. Fireworks will follow the game on Opening Night, the first of 14 Friday Night Fireworks shows this season. The home schedule includes 34 weekend dates and 12 Thirsty Thursday/Dollar Deal dates. The Rainiers will play 28 home games in June and July to coincide with the end of the school year, including 12 weekend matchups. Standard home game times will once again be 7:00 pm (Monday through Saturday) and 1:30 pm on Sundays.

This season the Rainiers will square off 15 times against Northwest rival Portland Beavers. Seven of those games will be played at Cheney Stadium, the first of which will be on Wednesday, July 1st. Fans will be able to see the newest team in the Pacific Coast League, the Reno Aces (formerly Tucson Sidewinders), for the first time on Tuesday, June 2nd.

Opening Night, April 17th will be a historic occasion for everyone at the ballpark. In honor of Cheney Stadium's 50th anniversary the Rainiers have planned a pre-game ceremony that will give fans a look back at the history of the ballpark. That night will also be a first look at a new video board in left field and new scoreboard with digital pitch speed and LED screen in right field.

Now is also the time for Rainiers fans and South Sound businesses to choose from several exclusive ticket packages that make the perfect holiday gift.

Two of the most popular places to catch a game, network, honor employees, or enjoy time with friends and family, are the Venture Bank Gold Clubs. Full Season and 24-game Venture Bank Gold Club packages give fans the best seats, reserved parking as well as all-inclusive food and drinks. Available dates on the Muckleshoot Casino Party Decks are also going fast. Nearly sold out a season ago, the Muckleshoot Casino Party Decks are the perfect place for groups of 50 or more.

Rainiers 7-Game plans offer four different options (Friday Night Fireworks, Saturday, Sunday, and All-Star) that best fit your family schedule. During these tough economic times, 7-Game plans offer affordable family fun.
