Teixeira, Youkilis Rehab in 3-1 Thunder Win

May 29, 2013

TRENTON, NJ - With a pair of MLB All-Stars in the lineup, a couple of top-prospects that the New York Yankees hope are future MLB All-Stars provided all the offense in Trenton's 3-1 win over the Erie Seawolves Wednesday morning.

Kevin Youkilis was in the lineup as the third baseman batting third, and Mark Teixeira was the first baseman batting cleanup in what is being reported as the first of two rehab appearances this week with the Thunder. The duo played seven innings in the field and each received three plate appearances. Each recorded a walk, and combined to go 0-for-4 against Erie starting pitcher, Patrick Cooper.

With the score tied 1-1 in the 6th inning, Youkilis walked to begin the inning. Teixeira then struck out for the first out of the inning to bring up Tyler Austin. Trenton's right fielder delivered a blast to left field for his fifth home run of the season for a 3-1 lead.

Earlier in the game, Slade Heathcott stepped to the plate after Cooper retired the first ten batters he faced. With one out in the 4th inning of a scoreless game, Heathcott hit his fourth homer of the season to jump the Thunder out in front, 1-0.

Starting pitcher Zach Nuding collected his second win of the season. He is now 2-6 after throwing 74 pitches (50 strikes) in 6.0 innings allowing one run on four hits. He allowed a home run to Eugenio Suarez to begin the 6th inning and ultimately stranded a runner at second base to escape with the game still ties 1-1.

Trenton is 29-24 with the win, and has matched a season-high with a five-game winning streak. They have also matched a season-high mark of five games above .500.

The Thunder and Seawolves complete their three-game series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Thunder look for a sweep to coincide with the second day of the rehab assignments for Teixeira and Youkilis. The game features a starting pitcher matchup of RHP Mikey O'Brien (3-0, 2.35) against RHP Warwick Saupold (4-1, 2.5) for Erie.
