Rays No. 19 prospect Sale suspended

Shelved for meth use, outfielder banned for Facebook post
May 29, 2013

Tampa Bay Rays prospect Josh Sale received his second suspension in less than a year on Wednesday, but this time, it wasn't for a failed drug test.

Sale, the Rays' first-round pick in 2010 and their No. 19 prospect, was suspended indefinitely "for conduct detrimental to organization," according to the Tampa Bay Times, after he posted a message on Facebook about a recent interaction with an exotic dancer.

Sale was suspended for 50 games on Aug. 27, 2012, after testing positive for Methamphetamine and an Amphetamine. The Seattle native has yet to play since but has kept busy while waiting to take the field again -- the Bowling Green outfielder wrote on Monday of his recent night out: "Threw 50 cents at a stripper tonight. First time. Got kicked out and she got so [upset] thought she was gonna cry."

Sale's post was published by Deadspin, and the outfielder later removed the message and apologized. His Facebook page has since been deleted.

A 21-year-old outfielder, Sale hit .264 with 10 homers, 44 RBIs and a .391 on-base percentage in 74 games last season with the Class A Hot Rods before his failed drug test. Drafted for his power, Sale debuted with the Rays at Rookie-level Princeton in 2011, where he hit .210 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 60 games.
