World Series Trophy stops twice in Williamsport

Trophy to appear at Cutters Hot Stove Banquet and Little League Museum
January 12, 2009
After closer Brad Lidge struck out the final batter on Oct. 29, 2008, Phillies fans everywhere began celebrating a World Series Championship. During the on-field celebration, Phillies players had their chance to enjoy the trophy, and now fans in the Williamsport area will have their opportunity, as well.

This week, the Phillies will begin a World Series Trophy Tour, presented by Teva Pharmaceuticals and Comcast SportsNet. The trophy will make nearly 30 appearances this month, with more to follow throughout 2009.

The trophy was already scheduled to appear at the Williamsport Crosscutters Hot Stove Banquet on Wed, Jan. 14 at the Genetti Hotel. That ticketed event, featuring broadcaster Harry Kalas, Phillies pitcher J.A. Happ and other dignitaries, has already sold out. Now, partially due to that fact, the Phillies are making the trophy available to fans at a free public appearance that same afternoon from 1:30-3 p.m., at the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum, at 525 Route 15 Highway, in South Williamsport.

"The passion of our fans throughout last season and the postseason was phenomenal," said David Buck, senior vice president, marketing and advertising sales. "Now, we want to take the trophy to them. We especially want to thank Teva Pharmaceuticals and Comcast SportsNet for joining us in this special tour."

The schedule for February will be announced later this month. One of the events next month will be the FanFest, held at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla., on Fri, Feb. 20.

Fans are encouraged to check the World Series Trophy Tour schedule, which will be posted on phillies.com and updated as additions are made.
