Hundreds say goodbye to Bud Kerr

Former Baseball Historian remembered as true friend
May 25, 2009
(Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - On a day where Ernie Banks would have proclaimed 'Let's play two', family and friends came out to Nat Bailey Stadium Monday to pay their respects to former baseball Historian Bud Kerr.

Kerr, who past away just over a week ago, was remembered by many of his family and peers as a loving father, grandfather and friend who always had time to talk a little 'baseball'.

Canadians Owner Jake Kerr was one of the first to speak and told the hundreds in attendance about Bud's commitment to keeping baseball alive locally.

"I think it is safe to say that if Bud Kerr and his Friends of Nat Bailey Stadium hadn't helped save this ballpark, there would be no professional baseball in this city today".

Longtime friend and nephew Bill Baxter spoke eloquently about Bud's love of the game and how he wanted everyone around him to share that same passion.

"Bud was always there to share his love for baseball. He was 10, and I was 6 and we would come to Capilano Stadium and get into the games after the 7th inning stretch once it became free for fans to get into the game".

Baxter added "I think seeing you all out here at the ballpark today would have been something Bud would have enjoyed very much".

The Vancouver Canadians announced that they had painted Bud Kerr's stadium seats white and added plaques on them commemorating Bud's life and love for 'Talking Baseball'. Those seats are located in Section 7 out at Nat Bailey Stadium.

The Vancouver Canadians hope Bud's friends and family will always consider Nat Bailey Stadium one of his homes, and feel welcome to come to the ballpark and visit anytime there is baseball on the diamond.
