USSSA Pride Signs Texas Ace Blaire Luna
KISSIMMEE, FL - The USSSA Pride announced the signing of Texas Longhorn pitcher Blaire Luna Tuesday.
Luna inked a two-year deal with the Pride, led by head coach J. T. D'Amico. Luna led the Longhorns to 51 wins this season, the second most in school history. She capped her collegiate career by pitching Texas to its fifth appearance in the Women's College World Series and earning first-team All-American recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Luna will be with the Pride next Thursday through Saturday at Whataburger Field for the NPF Classic, presented by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, KRIS-TV, ClearChannel Radio, H-E-B and the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Single games on Thursday, June 13 and Friday the 14th begin at 7:05. Saturday's doubleheader is set for 2:30. Reserved-seat tickets are a great value: just $12 for adults and $11 for children 12-and-under. Group and youth team discounts are available by contacting the Hooks at 561.HOOK.
Luna finished her career as one of the best pitchers in Texas, Big 12 and NCAA annals. During the WCWS, she became the sixth player in Big 12 history to reach 400 or more strikeouts in a season (422). Luna also accomplished the feat as a freshman in 2010 (404). This year, she won a career-high 32 games. Luna's Texas marks stand second only to current USSSA Pride ace Cat Osterman.
"It's awesome to have Blaire join our staff. It's been fun to watch her continue our tradition at Texas and to have her join the Pride ensures she's one of the elite," Osterman said. "I can't wait to share the circle with her and leave the game after this year knowing it's in good hands"
Luna's season began with a no hitter of Texas A&M Corpus Christi on February 7. She finished with a 112-30 career record and tallied 1,428 strikeouts as a Longhorn.
Luna joins Osterman and Megan Willis as the third active Longhorn alum on the Pride roster.
