Ports Announce Baseball by the Books Program

January 11, 2007
Ports Baseball By The Books Reading Program Participating students who complete the Baseball By The Books reading challenge will receive a ticket voucher good for two free tickets to a Ports home game!*

The Kick-Off Presentation Members of the Ports staff (including our mascot Splash, if available**) will come to your school to read the poem Casey at the Bat to students and explain the reading challenge to them.

The Challenge Students will have five weeks to complete the required amount of reading and earn their ticket voucher. The required amount of reading will be determined by the teacher of each class, allowing teachers to tailor the amount to their grade level. The Ports suggest using 8 grade-level books as the required amount for the full five-week period (a little less than two books per week).

Bookmarks Students will each receive a bookmark on which they can report the reading they've done each week. Bookmarks must be returned to the teacher, signed by the teacher and mailed back to the Ports by the deadline. Once the bookmarks are received and processed, ticket vouchers will be sent to the teachers for distribution.

The Stockton Ports are excited to kick off this great new program and hope to see your school participate! Call Danielle Alt at (209) 644-1900 to sign up today!

*Game selected in advance by the Ports.

** An appearance by Splash cannot be guaranteed, but the Ports will do their best to have him available.
