Where Are They Now: Jailen Peguero

TROY, N.Y. - Jailen Peguero was among the first professional baseball players to ever step foot onto Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. A member of the 2002 ValleyCats, Peguero appeared in 25 games that season. Peguero tossed a total of 50 innings and compliked a 1-1 record with six saves in 2002. The following season, Peguero was promoted to Single-A Lexington where he tallied 146 innings and recorded a 3.64 ERA.

Peguero continued his rise through the Astros minor league system, moving up to A-Advanced Salem in 2004. He appeared in 51 games with the Avalanche, posting eight saves with a 3.86 ERA. The right-hander found himself in Double-A Corpus Christi for the 2005 and 2006 seasons where he had two excellent campaigns. In 2005, Peguero appeared in 50 games and posted a 2.94 ERA and a team-high 12 saves. In 2006, Peguero enjoyed a fantastic season before being promoted to Triple-A Round Rock, providing a 3.47 ERA in 36.1 innings pitched.

Peguero began the 2007 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate Tucson Sidewinders where he compiled a record of 6-2 and an ERA of 1.89. In June he made his Major League debut in a game against the Boston Red Sox, throwing a perfect inning in relief. In September, Peguero earned his first Major League win in a game against the Giants, in which the right-hander pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Peguero split time between Tucson and Arizona in 2008. As a Sidewinder, Peguero appeared in 51 games, compiling a 6-4 record with five saves. Peguero proved to be tough on right-handed batters as they hit just .210 off the pitcher. With the Diamondback, Peguero appeared in seven games, posting a 4.82 ERA.
