Juneteenth Celebration kicks off with Grizzlies' June 14 game

Grizzlies will wear special Negro League jerseys, with post-game auction

The Fresno Juneteenth Committee is excited to announce its Annual 2013 Juneteenth Celebration under the theme, "Breaking Barriers." On Friday, June 14, the Juneteenth Celebration ceremony will begin before the Grizzlies' game against the Salt Lake Bees. The Grizzlies will wear special Negro League jerseys to honor the San Francisco Sea Lions.

Before the game, an on-field presentation will include the following: Color Guard presenting the Juneteenth Flag, the singing of the Black National Anthem, Life Every Voice, and the introduction of Juneteenth Honorees.

Upon completion of the Honoree Awards, the following presentations will be made: The Terance Frazier Business Award being issued to Terance Frazier, a Juneteenth Proclamation being issued to Andre Covington, and two $500 Juneteenth Scholarships being issued to Philip Randle, Mr. Juneteenth, and Sidney Lee, Miss Juneteenth.

At the end of the game, the San Francisco Sea Lions theme jerseys will be auctioned off live right off the players' backs.

The Juneteenth Celebration continues on Saturday, June 15 with a day of festivities at Cecil C. Hinton Community Center, including a morning parade and performance by Marquis Anthony.

The Juneteenth Celebration honors African ancestors who were enslaved, to celebrate courage, the African American historical contributions, and the spirit of freedom.
