Chukars' Mascot to Play Saturday
The Idaho Falls Chukars are proud to announce that Charlie the Chukar will be playing in the Salt Lake City Bees first annual Mascots vs. Knothole Club All-Stars Game Saturday at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The game will begin at 4:00 PM, prior to the Bees' doubleheader against the Reno Aces.
Charlie was not initially invited by the Salt Lake City Bees. After seeing that fellow Pioneer League mascots Hootz (Orem Owlz) and Oggie (Odgen Raptors) were invited, Charlie got on the phone with the Bee's brass and demanded an opportunity to show up his fellow mascots.
"I tried to explain to Charlie that Idaho Falls probably seemed out of the way to the Bees and they weren't trying to snub him, but Charlie has made it his personal mission to prove what kind of mascot he is to the folks in the Salt Lake area," said Chukars' director of media relations John Hadden.
Also participating in the game with host mascot Bumble will be the Flash Fox from the Utah Flash, Grizzbee from the Utah Grizzlies, Cosmo from BYU, Swoop from the University of Utah, Big Blue from Utah State University, Wolverine from Utah Valley University, and Bruin Bear from Salt Lake City Community College.
Charlie has been in Idaho Falls since 2004 when the team changed its name from the Padres to the Chukars. This will be the first appearance in a mascot game for the five year-old Chukar, which means he will be one of the youngest players on either team.
