JOHNSON CITY - The Johnson City Cardinals have announced their schedule for the 2009 Appalachian League season. This year's season will kickoff on June 23rd with the last regular season game being played on September 1st. The Cardinals will open the season on the road in Kingsport on Tuesday, June 23rd. The Cardinals will play a three game series with the Mets before the action comes to Howard Johnson Field on Friday, June 26th when the Cardinals play host to the Burlington Royals in the 2009 home opener. The Cardinals will renew their 11-E Series rivalry with the Greeneville Astros with a three game series beginning Wednesday July 8th and with a return trip from the Astros for another three game set beginning on Wednesday July 15th. The Cardinals won the series last season by winning eight of the nine games played against the Astros. This years schedule is once again highlighted by visits from the defending Appalachian League Champion Elizabethton Twins as they will make the short trip to Johnson City four times this season. Considered one of the best rivalries in the Appalachian League, the Cardinals and Twins will face off for a three game series beginning Tuesday August 4th and again for a single game on Wednesday August 26th. Last season the Cardinals took seven of nine games from the Twins and look to continue their success against the defending champs during the 2009 campaign. Johnson City Cardinals home games, unless otherwise noted, will start at 7:00pm Monday-Friday, while Saturday and Sunday games will begin at 6:00pm. The 2009 promotional schedule will be released at a future date.
The 2009 Season marks Johnson City's 35th consecutive year of affiliation with the St. Louis Cardinals and the 6th year the Johnson City Cardinals will be managed by the nonprofit Johnson City Sports Foundation (JCSF). Proceeds from the Cardinals' season will provide grants for local youth sports and education programs. Season tickets are on sale now, with General Admission tickets available for $35 and Box Seats for $75. Ten game passes are also available for only $20.
