Carlos Zambrano to Start for IronPigs on Thursday
RHP Carlos Zambrano is scheduled to start for the IronPigs when the team hosts the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. in the opening game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Park. Zambrano was signed by the Phillies as a Minor League free agent on May 15 and has impressed in his first three lower level Minor League starts by going 2-0 with a 0.55 ERA.
Thursday's game also features a Beach Towel giveaway presented by Air Products for the first 3,000 fans 18 and older on Beach Night at Coca-Cola Park.

The 32-year-old Zambrano last pitched in the Major Leagues with Miami in 2012, posting a 7-10 record with a 4.49 ERA in 35 games and 20 starts. Zambrano is most recognized for his time with the Chicago Cubs where he spent the first 11 years of his MLB career, threw his only career no-hitter and was named an All-Star in 2004, 2006 and 2008. During the 2006 campaign, he led the National League in wins (16).
Overall, Zambrano has gone 132-91 with a 3.66 ERA during his 12-year Major League career while also reaching the playoffs on three occasions (0-2, 4.34 ERA in 5 starts).
While he is unlikely to bat on Thursday (due to designated hitter rules against American League affiliates), he is regarded as one baseball's best hitting pitchers, batting .238 with 24 career home runs.
In his last start on Saturday for Double-A Reading against Harrisburg, he earned a victory with six innings of one run baseball and seven strikeouts.
