Blue Jays announce 2013 radio schedule, new broadcaster
The Bluefield Blue Jays have announced their 2013 radio schedule, and fans will be able to tune in for 40 games this summer.
Fans will be able to follow the team as it travels through the Appalachian League, as all 34 road contests will be broadcast on the radio this season. Select home games will also be carried. The games can be heard on Adventure Radio Group's Eagle 100.9 FM.
The six home games that will be carried on the air include the July 5 matchup with the Elizabethton Twins, the July 9 game against the Johnson City Cardinals, the July 19 contest with the Burlington Royals, the July 29 game versus the Danville Braves, the August 19 tilt with the Pulaski Mariners, and the August 22 game against the Kingsport Mets.
Those six home games and all of the away games will also be simulcast on bluefieldjays.com.
Also in 2013, a new voice will present the games over the air for the Blue Jays, as the club has hired Trey Wilson to handle the broadcasting and media relations duties this summer.
"It's a pleasure to bring Trey aboard for the 2013 season," Bluefield general manager Jeff Gray said. "We look forward to him bringing his skills and knowledge of baseball to the Bluefield Blue Jays organization."
Wilson, a native of Portsmouth, Va., has worked for several years with the athletic department at nearby Bluefield College, and served as the Interim Sports Information Director for the college early in 2013. He was the broadcaster for Bluefield College's football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball teams from 2011-2013.
Wilson spent two seasons covering the Toronto Blue Jays farm system while working as the Bluefield Beat Writer for Fox Sports-affiliated FutureJays.com on the Scout.com network.
"I'm very excited to call the Jays' games this summer," said Wilson. "During the summers that I have spent in Bluefield, my favorite place to be has always been Bowen Field. I can't wait for the season to get started."
The Blue Jays will open their season on June 20 at Bowen Field against the Greeneville Astros. The first game that will be carried on the radio will be the matchup with the Pulaski Mariners on June 23.
